This video explores the Colt Monitor, an improved version of the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) developed by Colt for the law enforcement market. Introduced in 1931 as the R80, it featured a shortened barrel, pistol grip, and a Cutts Compensator muzzle brake, designed to overcome the limitations of Thompson submachine guns against automobiles. Despite being designated the FBI's official Fighting Rifle in 1933, low production numbers and high cost limited its adoption. The example shown belonged to author Jim Ballou and is a rare transferable NFA item.
