Remington EtronX: Electrically Primed Ammunition
This video discusses the Remington EtronX, a commercially unsuccessful attempt to integrate electronic ignition into firearms. Introduced in 2000, the rifle utilized a 9V battery and capacitor system to energize a primer containing a resistor, which then ignited the propellant. The primary technological benefit was a significantly reduced lock time. However, due to concerns about ammunition availability and a general market reluctance towards electronic firearm components, the EtronX failed to gain traction and was discontinued by Remington in 2003.
