From the Vault: The Walther HP Pistol
This video from Brownells features firearm historians Keith and Steve at Rock Island Auction Company showcasing an exceptionally rare commercial model Walther HP pistol. The Walther HP is presented as the direct predecessor to the iconic Walther P38, sharing many of its innovative features like a double-action trigger, decocker, and the P38's signature locking block system. This particular example, chambered in 7.65mm Parabellum (.30 Luger), is described as being in pristine condition with excellent bluing and well-fitted wood grips. The rarity is emphasized, with only about 130 made and just 12 known to still exist, making this a significant historical find.
