Prototype Colt-Vektor: A 1911 on the Outside and a Beretta on the Inside
This video explores the rare Colt-Vektor "ProTec" pistol, a fascinating prototype from the late 1990s. Colt sought licensed firearms after the failures of its Double Eagle and All-American 2000 models. They approached Vektor, a South African company producing Beretta 92 derivatives. Vektor created two prototypes based on their SP1, modifying the grips and slides to resemble the iconic 1911 to align with Colt's brand image. These were followed by 20 "ProTec" pistols in 1999, offered in 5" and 4.25" barrel lengths and in 9mm and .40 S&W calibers. The project ultimately stalled, with both Colt and Vektor experiencing other issues, leading to the cancellation of the deal. These prototypes and ProTec pistols remained with Colt for years before a few were sold to employees.
