Israeli SP66: A Modern Mauser Sniper
This video delves into the Israeli SP66, a modern sniper rifle adopted by Israel around 1980. Based on the Mauser 66 sporting rifle action, it was designed for counter-terrorism units and featured an adjustable cheek rest, excellent trigger, and mechanical accuracy. The IDF equipped these rifles with various optics, including Kahles, Nimrod, and Swarovski. The SP66 was eventually succeeded by the Mauser SP86 and many were later surplussed and imported into the US, notably by Springfield Armory.
